Zawa Is the Key!

There's an Indonesian meme that goes "Jawa adalah kunci" (Java is the key). For developers who need a free WhatsApp API, though? Zawa is the key. 😎
Zawa was born out of a small frustration: not everyone can afford those pricey WhatsApp APIs, especially when all you need is to send an OTP or the occasional broadcast.
Zawa is made by a developer, for developers. Not by a corporation, and not to make money. It's here to help you build your project, bot, or side hustle with WhatsApp, without worrying about billing, servers, and all the other fuss.
If you're tired of being told to "pay first, try later", Zawa is on your side.
No fees. No drama. Just bring some curiosity and a cup of coffee (optional, but recommended ☕).
Why Zawa?
- Free. Actually free. No fine print, and no trial that quietly runs out.
- Developer-friendly. A REST API that speaks plain JSON. The person who built it doesn't enjoy long docs either, so these are kept short.
- Just scan a QR code. No business account sign-up, no lengthy verification. Create a session, scan the QR with your phone, done.
- Use it for anything. Bots, notifications, OTPs, broadcasts, or just tinkering.
What Can Zawa Do?
- Send messages Text, images, video, audio, documents, locations, and contacts to a number, group, or channel.
- Post statuses Post text, image, or video statuses straight from your code.
- Typing indicator Show "typing…" or "recording audio…".
- Channels List the channels you follow, read their details, and fetch their message history.
- Groups List the groups you're in, read their details, and fetch their members.
- Manage sessions Check the connection, get a fresh QR code, or delete a session whenever you like.
How Does It Work?
Zawa connects to WhatsApp as a linked device, just like WhatsApp Web does. The only difference is that the Zawa server is the one that's "logged in", and you control it over HTTP.
- Create a session You create a session through the API, and Zawa prepares a QR code.
- Scan the QR with your phone Open WhatsApp → Linked devices → Link a device, then scan the QR code.
- Use it from the API Done! Your number can now be used from the API with the session's
idandsession-id.
Where Do I Start?
Don't worry, we won't throw you straight at the endpoints. Here's a good reading order:
- Before You Start A few short ground rules so everyone has a good time.
- Quick Start Send your first message in about 5 minutes.
- Core Concepts Sessions, phone number formats, media, and response formats.
- API Reference Every endpoint, with examples.
